Odds & Ends

It’s been an “office week” to finish a year-end report (even though we’ve only been here a few months) and paperwork.  Our next trip isn’t until next week, so in the meantime:

A lot of the ladies ride side-saddle…ignore the “stink eye” she’s giving me

This is the view of a daily walk – navigating motorcycles, cars, other walkers, having to walk in the street an oh, by the way, don’t be surprised if a bike comes up behind you going the wrong way, just to keep you on your toes!

Trees are good; sidewalks are good.  They are not, however, good together.

The Moss’s and the Baird’s are leaving soon, so we are trying to have a few meals together before they go.  We found a great Indonesia/Chinese/Thai place right near our apartment.  A great meal for all six of us was Rp 750,000 ($55).

Did some grocery shopping today and ran into a few “unusual” items:

Not exactly sure what ‘wood sugar’ is..

Vegetables in a box – the latest in packaging

Milk in a box on a shelf – not in the cooler

You don’t normally see a quarter of beef hanging on the hook in the middle of the store.

I know corned beef, but corned chicken and corned tuna?

This entire aisle is tuna, mackerel and sardines

Mmmmmm….duck with the head and the feet.  About $6.

Cornflakes and chocolate candy…..

Udang (shrimp) not cheap at $13/lb.

Buying frozen french fries in bulk.

A huge Jackfruit being taken apart – notice the size of the half fruit at his left hand!

Dinner at the Tandiman’s – a great family.  He’s a former Mission President and is now Asian Area Seminary Director.  Took my guitar and had a great time singing the oldies!
