Jakarta Zone Christmas Party
Well, the Bekasi Ward Christmas party we were supposed to attend was a complete bust. They were having a 3-day party (Thur-Sat – yes you read that right) and we were going out to have dinner, sing in their program, spend the night, then leave early Friday to get back to the Mission Home by 10 am to participate in the party for the two Jakarta Zones. So, we left Thursday around 10:15 am to drive the 100 miles or so (3.5-4 hours) to the “resort” where the Ward was having their party. At 12:30 pm, we had made it 12 miles out of Jakarta. This traffic is legendary….So we stopped for lunch to decide what we were going to do, and while there, received a call with the news that our estimated arrival time was going to be around 9-10 pm!!! Decision made. Turned around and came back home by 3:00 pm. It appears all of Jakarta was leaving for the holidays (yes, they celebrate ALL the holidays here!) and where we were headed was a popular destination. So, while it was a good idea, it wasn’t to be. (Side note: one of the office staff was telling us today that last year he drove to Jogja during a Muslim holiday. Normally an 8-hour drive, it was bumper-to-bumper ALL THE WAY and it took him TWO DAYS.
So, we went to the office this morning and helped Sister Rowley prepare for the local Jakarta Zone Christmas Party. Very nice – short program, a few songs, good messages and great food.
President Rowley is a good sport:
