Sunday was Muhammad’s (the Muslim prophet) birthday, so all over Indonesia were parades, festivals, etc. Sunday after Church, we walked back to the Jeffery’s apartment and walked through a public park where a lot of this was going on. The parades were earlier in the day, so we missed those, but a lot of the people were still hanging around.
Lots of colorful costumes
Always lots of stuff for sale…
Pretty cool tree – kind of like a Banyan Tree – the small branches grow down and take root. The larger trees in the park are supposedly a couple hundred years old.
Spirograph being sold by a street vendor
Lady at the park. (Notice everyone in the background watching us….pretty much always the case!)
Recycling trash “cans”on the street corner. Actually they’re clay pots marked plastic, glass, paper, etc.
She can’t help herself – 50,000 Rp ($3.75)
The young teenage girls LOVE to take “photo” with DeeAnn. (But not with me – it’s a cultural thing…)
These “vertical” gardens are quite popular – small potted plants stacked up a frame. They look great
